'Which Movie Is This?': How British Veteran Remembers 9/11 Reaction

Retired Colonel Ash Alexander-Cooper spoke to Forces News about his memories of the attack and how it impacted his life and service.

Today marks 20 years since the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon.

As a direct result of events that day, British troops have served in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries for two decades.

Forces News spoke to one veteran, retired Colonel Ash Alexander-Cooper, about his memories of 9/11 and the impact it had on his life and service.

He was in the operations room in South Oman when he saw the attacks on TV.

"I just glanced up and saw the plane hit, I think, the second tower and remember just asking somebody, 'Which movie is this?"

However, Mr Alexander-Cooper said he then had to proceed with flying operations.

"For us… you'd seen something that was shocking and you couldn't quite get your head around, but you didn't have the luxury of time to really process it in the moment," he said.

"It took quite a bit of time for us to realise what was happening."
