The US Congress is set to investigate reports there are 1,000 spelling errors in names on the recently unveiled Wall of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans Memorial.

Representatives of the armed services and natural resources committees, in both the House and Senate, sent a letter to the US Defense Secretary looking for answers on the errors, according to congress.

The letter outlines that the wall, in Washington DC, could contain up to 1,000 spelling errors and also reportedly includes the names of 245 individuals who were not even killed in the conflict.

Lawmakers shared their concerns that errors of such magnitude went under the radar until after the wall was built and asked for help in finding the flaws that led to the mistakes.

The wall is supposed to show the names of more than 36,000 American troops who died during the Korean war, as well as more than 7,000 Koreans.

The Wall of Remembrance was completed in 2022 and sits within the Korean War Veterans Memorial – dedicated in 1995.

The mistakes have been revealed after veterans' families asked Congress to investigate the mistakes in January.
