What next for Ukraine's Donbas?

Russian victory in Mariupol could see troops moved to the Putin's priority target region, says a land warfare expert.

Questions surround the fate of the Donbas region in Ukraine, a priority for President Vladimir Putin and his Russian forces and an area President Volodymyr Zelensky isn't giving up without a heavy fight.

Brigadier Ben Barry told Forces News how Russian troops are using short, sharp attacks there to pin Ukrainian forces into certain positions – vulnerable to artillery fire.

The land warfare expert also said personnel previously committed to Russia's invasion effort in Mariupol could be moved to the Donbas, after their recent victory in the city.
