Cities across Ukraine were hit by a wave of Russian missiles on New Year's Eve.

Kherson experienced night-time shelling, which killed one person, wounded another and blew out the windows of a children's hospital, according to deputy presidential chief of staff Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

In eastern Khmelnytskyi the mayor, Oleksandr Symchyshyn, said a woman had died in hospital due to the wounds from a rocket attack.

Kyiv and several other areas were also struck by Russian missiles, injuring dozens of people.

Ukrainian officials claimed Russia was now deliberately targeting civilians, seeking to create a climate of fear and dent morale.

This latest attack comes just 36 hours after Russia damaged Ukrainian infrastructure when it launched one of its largest air strikes since the start of the war.

First Lady Olena Zelenska expressed outrage that such massive missile attacks could come just before New Year's Eve celebrations.

"Ruining lives of others is a disgusting habit of our neighbours," she said.
