UFO: New Wave Heading For Earth - And Forces TV

The classic 1970s Gerry Anderson series makes a welcome return to our screens.

The aliens are invading our screens once more, as the legendary TV and film producer Gerry Anderson’s cult sci-fi series UFO airs on Forces TV.

The series, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch’s mother Wanda Ventham, is set in the future 1980, when a global organisation called S.H.A.D.O. (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organization) is defending Earth against a dying alien race, hungry for human body parts to extend their own lifespans.

The series also stars Ed Bishop (Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons) as Commander Ed Straker alongside Gabrielle Drake (Coronation Street) as Lieutenant Gay Ellis, George Sewell (Get Carter) as Colonel Alec Freeman and Michael Billington as Colonel Paul Foster.

In its battle against extraterrestrial invaders, SHADO deploys submarines, lunar interceptors, ground attack vehicles, orbital detection hardware and SHADO’s unforgettable Moonbase front-line defence installation populated by its crew of purple-wigged SHADO operatives.

Created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, UFO was their first live action television series and introduction into adult TV. UFO is also remembered for its mature storylines and intense performances and over time has become one of Anderson’s most-admired shows.
