YOU MUST SET UP YOUR DVD RECORDER
TO RECORD AT THE CORRECT TIMES.
THIS IS SEPARATE FROM SETTING UP THE BFBS BOX
IMPORTANT - The BFBS Box does not have any internal memory,
to record programs you need attach a USB Memory Stick or Hard Drive
Using a USB memory stick or external Hard drive allows you to not only record programs to watch later but to also pause live programs e.g. whilst taking a telephone call and continue watching when you are ready
Each hour of a TV program will require about 1GB of storage, so a 16GB memory stick will allow you to record about 16 hours etc. etc. You can also use an external USB hard drive, these normally have capacities of greater that 250GB but we recommend that if you use an external hard drive that you use a type that has its own power supply. Some types of drives use the connection to the BFBS Box to get its power and we have found that random makes of this type may not work
IMPORTANT - Whether you use a USB stick or a Drive please ensure that you have copied anything on it you need such as Pictures and Documents to another device. Connecting it and using it with the BFBS Box will wipe the stick or drive
Connect the USB Stick or Drive to the USB connector on the rear of the BFBS Box as shown:
When it is correctly plugged in a message is shown on screen:
this is the first time you have connected this stick or drive to your BFBS Box then please continue with the “Preparing the drive for use” section.
then go to “Simple Recording” section further down
Preparing the drive for use
With the USB stick or Drive plugged in, go to the MENU on the remote, scroll to RECORDING MEDIA ORGANISER and press OK:
Scroll down to File System Format press OK and re-formatting will begin
This will destroy any files already on the drive!
When the finished message is given,
press OK and then use the scroll control and OK to select DVR SUITABILITY TEST. This will prove that this stick or drive is suitable and ready for use,
The simplest way to use the recorder is to wait till the programme is showing then press the red dot button at the bottom left of the numeric keypad section of the remote control.
Up to two programmes can be recorded simultaneously. The second one to be selected can be watched whilst it is recording
To record a program that is on later
- open the EPG
- find the programme using the DAY, UP/DOWN scroll controls
- press the RED button
- scroll to NEW DVR TIMER
..and press OK
- Accept the event
- Come out of the timer mode by pressing BACK
Programmes to be recorded are shown in the EPG list with red text drive icon:

Select the program you want using the UP/DOWN controls and OK
The new BFBS box doesn’t have an rf output that I used to connect to an aerial lead that allowed me to watch TV in my bedroom. What can I do now?
The new BFBS Technisat box, unlike the old BFBS Pace box, doesn’t have an rf output, it only connects to your TV set or other equipment through an HDMI or SCART lead
If you previously sent the signal from your old PACE box to another TV set in your house via the rf connector then you could purchase a device similar to these:
These plug into the SCART connector on the rear of the BFBS box, and you plug your rf lead going off to your other TV set into the device. Some devices will allow you to choose the UHF channel, some are fixed. You will need to follow the instructions provided
PLEASE NOTE that BFBS do not recommend any specific device and only show these units as examples of what could be used. BFBS can only offer limited advice on the use and operation
CYPRUS VIEWERS ONLY - If you currently have an rf distribution system that relied on the rf output from the old BFBS Pace box then the satellite dish maintenance company that BFBS use are offering to supply, fit and setup one of these devices for the total price of 80 Euros. If you wish to take up this offer please contact REDMAX directly on Cyprus civilian 22 399 402 - THIS IS FOR CYPRUS VIEWERS ONLY
I have just been given my BFBS box but when I turn it on the TV displays “E107-4 The smart card is not fully authorised”. What do I do?
When the BFBS card is registered by the shop or the BFBS Helpdesk an activation signal is sent over the satellite to switch the card on. This signal is only there for a few seconds before moving onto another card. The signal however returns every hour or two and this continues for the life of the card
It is very likely that when BFBS registered the card it was not in the CAM (the metal sleeve that the Card is slotted into) and box, they were seated incorrectly or the Box was not switched on, and therefore it missed its activation signal and it has to wait for the signal to come around again
If you see this E107-4 error when you first switch on the box please leave the card and CAM in the box and the box switched on. Within about 2 hours the card will have received the activation signal and spring into life. Do not be tempted to remove the card in this couple of hours
On the rare occasion that this does not work please leave the card, CAM and box switched on overnight and if in the morning it is still showing the error please give contact our helpdesk, the details for your location are given here
I have a message on screen that says "Programme is scrambled Conditional Access: Irdeto(646)". What do I do?
The first thing to check is that the CAM (the metal sleeve that the Card is slotted into) and Card are correctly seated in the box
Place the box into standby
Open the flap on the right of the box and press the black button on the right of the CAM and Card. The CAM and Card will be released. Carefully slide the CAM and Card from the box, do not bend or twist it - the CAM contains electronics and processors that allow the Card to talk to the box, so treat it gently
Partially slide the Card from the CAM and, checking with the photograph below, check the both the CAM and Card are "the right way up". If not take the Card from the CAM - take care and not touch the smart-chip on the card - and turn it over or around and slide in back into the CAM then gently push the Card back into the CAM and ensure that the edges of both are flush i.e. the Card is seated correctly
Checking with the photograph to ensure the CAM is the right way up, slide the CAM back into the box - there will be slight resistance at the end as the sockets on the CAM locate with the pins in the box - until the CAM edge and the black button are flush i.e. the CAM is seated correctly
Close the flap and turn on the box:
Give it a few minutes and if the same error appears then please contact our helpdesk, the details for your location are given here
If you have the type of remote control shown in Picture 1 - then one possible reason why your remote control is not working with your satellite receiver could be because the Technicsat remote control is able to operate different satellite receivers, and may not be set to operate your satellite receiver:
- and press OK
- Press the GREEN Accept button
