'Likely' HMS Prince of Wales will have to go into dry dock, Defence Secretary says

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace says it looks likely that HMS Prince of Wales will have to go in to dry dock to have problems with a shaft and propeller fixed.

Just 48 hours after HMS Prince of Wales left Portsmouth Naval Base for the US for exercises a mechanical fault was discovered.

The £3bn aircraft carrier had broken down off the Isle of Wight and Forces News understands she was then assisted back to Gosport, aided by tugs, to find calmer waters so divers could assess the damage to the shaft.

Rear Admiral Steve Moorhouse, the man responsible for Navy ships being ready to deploy, did provide an update on the mechanical fault being with the "starboard shaft".
