A number of Forces stars have received a boost with the announcement that UK Sport will restore funding to bobsleigh.

In 2018, after a disappointing finish at the Winter Olympics, the GB Bobsleigh team had their funding cut.

In the build-up to Beijing 2022, the team, which included Royal Marine Taylor Lawrence and Army star Nick Gleeson, were forced to source their own funding for their Olympic campaign.

That work paid off with an impressive sixth-placed finish at the games.

After Beijing, Gleeson immediately called for a return of the funding ahead of the 2026 Games in Italy and has had his wish confirmed.

Funding has also been secured for the growth of skeleton.

In a statement, British Bobsleigh and Skeleton chairĀ Joanna Poulton said: "It has long been our aim to have both sports funded once again and this is a positive step for the organisation.

"Our bobsleigh athletes enjoyed a stunning season in 2021/22, winning an unprecedented number of top-tier medals and it is pleasing to see them rewarded for that success.

"We believe they can continue that success in Milan Cortina and beyond and we are excited to see what they can achieve with support from UK Sport."
