Former British soldier Scott Meenagh has won a silver medal at the Para Nordic World Championships in Sweden.

He finished just behind American Aaron Pike in the Individual 12.5km Sitting event.

The Scot previously competed on an international level in Para Rowing and this is his first major major medal in Para Nordic Skiing.

Meenagh, who is a double amputee after he was injured serving in Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment in 2011, has built on a successful season last year where he claimed his best result at the Paralympic Winter Games where he finished sixth in the long-distance biathlon.

The world championships will include cross country as well as biathlon events and will finish on 29 January.
