The 2021 Inter Services Snow Sports Championships in Meribel have been cancelled.

The event, which is held annually in the French ski resort, is one of the biggest military sports events to fall victim to the global coronavirus pandemic.

More than 350 Armed Forces skiers, snowboarders and telemark skiers usually descend on the French Alps.

A number of sporting events have been cancelled or postponed since the outbreak of the virus.

As early as August, the Royal Navy announced the cancellation of their Alpine championships and they have since withdrawn from all winter sports activity until the end of March 2021.

The Army has also cancelled its entire winter sport season and the Royal Air Force has said all overseas trips remain out of the question.
