Former British soldier Corie Mapp has finished sixth place in the Para Bobsleigh World Championships in St Moritz, Switzerland.

Mapp was in fourth place after Thursday's two runs, clocking a combined time of 2 minutes 27.03 seconds placing him just 0.03 back from the bronze medal position.

Facing stiff competition in Friday's final two heats, Mapp slid his way to a combined time of 2 minutes 27.74 seconds which was only enough for sixth place.

It was an Austrian story in the end with a surprise win by Hermann Ellmauer, who placed ahead of his teammate Arturs Klots who took home the silver medal.

Home favourite Christopher Stewart, from Switzerland, won the tight battle for the bronze medal.

Mapp's sixth-place finish comes after he won a brilliant silver medal at the European Para Bobsleigh Championships last week in Innsbruck, Austria.

This weekend the men's four-man Bobsleigh team, which includes Royal Marine Taylor Lawrence, will be in action as they attempt to win an historic world championship gold medal.

The four-man bobsleigh team, led by Brad Hall, won a landmark gold medal at the European Championships a couple of weeks ago and are thought to be the favourites to win the gold in St Moritz.
