UKAF Rugby League Players Win President's Cup

A win over an England Universities team decided the tournament in the final game.

The UKAF Rugby League Team have won the President’s Cup in Sheffield.

They defeated an England Universities side by 24-20 to claim the trophy.

In their first game, the UKAF team defeated the GB Police 22-0 and followed that up with a 38-6 win over the GB Teachers.

That meant they played against the students for the trophy in what is regularly seen as the toughest game of the tournament.

It took the military team just minutes to land the first try of the match. Declan Baines took advantage of their opponent’s hesitation to score the first points.

The slow decision-making from the students cost them the first try of the game.

It was 6-0 after just 10 minutes. Lennox Green converted while minutes later, Kev Brown dances through the defence to add another score.

Baines completed a hat-trick of tries before the interval. His first was a well-taken solo effort while the second came from Green’s lofty kick.

The 22-0 scoreline at the break meant the UKAF team were in full control, but had to deal with a good fightback in the second half.

The students put in four tries, including two in the final ten minutes, but a penalty from the UKAF team proved vital in a 24-20 win.
