UKAF Ladies Lose Rugby League Clash With GB Teachers

The military side were on the wrong end of a 22-20 scoreline in Wigan.

The UKAF Women’s Rugby League team have been beaten 22-20 by the GB Teachers in Wigan.

Leeds Rhinos and Army star Abby Eatock impressed for the military team as she grabbed two tries, but the teachers held on to their slender lead.

Eatock opened the scoring with a trademark run beating two women on her way to the try-line and as Carrie Roberts converted, UKAF led by six points.

The teachers hit back quickly though Grace Morely and Paige Costello and Leah Jones converted the second try to give the civilian team a four-point advantage.

Roberts scored a try of her own to level the scores but Amy Boardmen had the teachers back in front before the break.

They would not lead at half-time though. Jodie Mills took advantage of a fortunate deflection to dive over the line and make it 16-16 at the break.

Army and Leeds Rhinos player Abby Eatock was a key player for UKAF as she scored twice.

The second half saw both sides focus on their defensive tactics, meaning there were only a few scores in the final 40.

Katy Tordoff scored for the teachers and Jones converted again to give them a 22-16 lead, but UKAF finished the game well.

Eatock scored an impressive solo effort, but the Armed Forces couldn’t convert and it proved to be vital.

The missed two points gave the teachers the win, but positives to take for UKAF after just a week of training together before the match.
