A vice-admiral in the Canadian Navy has held up his end of the deal after losing a bet on the Women's Rugby World Cup semi-final between England and Canada.

The Red Roses beat Canada 26-19 and, before the game, Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee sent a message to the First Sea Lord of the Royal Navy to up the stakes – saying whoever lost had to wear the opponent's jersey.

So, after the result, VAdm Topshee posted a picture on Twitter showing him wearing an England jersey alongside the head of the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Ben Key.

"Finally got to hold up my end of the deal I made with @FirstSeaLord when we had our first official round of meetings yesterday!" he tweeted.

Admiral Sir Ben had accepted the bet enthusiastically, by stating that "whoever loses has to wear the shirt for the first day of a mutual visit!"

Well, now we all know the result – and what the Navy chiefs were wearing for the visit.
