British Army beaten by Northampton Saints as Mobbs Memorial match returns

A 59-7 defeat gave the Army plenty to learn from heading into the Navy clash at Twickenham Stadium.

The British Army rugby union team have been heavily beaten by a strong Northampton Saints XV in the Mobbs Memorial match.

Due to COVID-19, this was the first fixture in tribute to Edgar Mobbs since 2019.

It came in between the Army's two Inter Services fixtures and gave them key preparation ahead of the clash with the Royal Navy at Twickenham Stadium on 30 April.

The Navy had trained with Northampton Saints earlier in the week thanks to Sam Matavesi who plays for both the Saints and the Navy.

His brother Joel Matavesi was in the Northampton side who scored five first-half tries to lead 31-0 at the break.

The Army's only try of the night came from Sentiki Nayalo but the Saints were rampant throughout.

The result is a tough defeat for the Army, but a strong Northampton team was always going to provide a tough challenge ahead of the Army v Navy match.

Remember, you can watch the clash at Twickenham Stadium ONLY on the Forces News YouTube or for serving personnel, it will be on the BFBS Sport channel on BFBS TV.
