Army rugby league star Staff Sergeant Carrie Roberts has been selected in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup.

SSgt Roberts suffered a torn ankle ligament injury in this season's Challenge Cup final while playing for St Helens.

However, her hard work to get back to fitness has paid off as she's been selected among 23 other players in the England squad.

She has told Forces News that she is "over the moon" at being selected.

This will be a home tournament for SSgt Roberts and England as they kick off their tournament at Headingley against Brazil on 1 November.

On Saturday 1 October, the Army women's rugby league team kick off their Inter Services campaign against the Royal Navy in Bradford.

SSgt Roberts is not expected to be included in this year's championship.

You can watch both the men's and women's matches LIVE with BFBS.
