Royal Navy Sports Awards 2021: The winners

The Royal Navy has held its 2021 Sports Awards ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground.

This was the first time members of the Navy could come together to celebrate their sporting achievements since 2019 due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marine George Crotty took the headlines as he won his second Sportsman of the Year award.

The GB boxer beat Lieutenant Commander Stuart Moss from rowing and Sub Lieutenant Dan Soltys from triathlon to the top male award.

It was a Navy boxer who won the Sportswoman of the Year award as well.

Writer Sophie Colbourn won the 2019 Haringey Box Cup and in December last year, she got to the semi-finals of the Winter Box Cup.

She also led the first-ever female-only Navy team to the final of the Golden Girl tournament in Sweden.

Team of the Year was already announced as the Equestrian dressage team.

Lieutenant Chris Mullen was named Official of the Year for his work with Navy judo while there were eight lifetime achievement awards.

There were also two COVID-19 awards handed out work carried out during the pandemic.
