Senior Aircraftman Liam Sanford has been selected as part of Great Britain’s squad for the inaugural International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League in January.
The 2017 RAF Sportsman of the Year starred for England at the World Cup earlier this month in their run to the semi-finals.
Those performances have impressed selectors enough to secure his place in the tournament which is replacing the previous FIH World League format.
The tournament starts in January and runs through to June with nine international teams involved in a league format. Each team will play each other home and away and the top four teams will advance to a grand final in the Netherlands.
The competition has been set up by the International Hockey Federation and will serve as qualifying for the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
For the first two years, Great Britain will take part leading up to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 before England will compete in the following two years for the World Cup.
Sanford and his team-mates will kick off their tournament away to Spain on the 25th January.
