Leading Army Canoe Star To Compete At World Championships

Former Royal Engineer Nick Beighton has been named in the British team for Hungary.

A former Royal Engineer officer has been announced in Britain's team for the Para Canoe World Championships.

The event will be held in Hungary in August.

In 2019, Beighton was injured while serving on operations in Afghanistan and has overcome double amputation to compete at the highest level.

The sportsman won a bronze medal in the men's KL2 sprint at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

The para-athlete will be competing in the same race at the World Championships.

The event will also serve as an important chance to seal boat quota spots for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.

After the World Championships, the team will then head to Japan for the Tokyo 2020 test event.
