RAF hockey star Liam Sanford came off the bench to help England make a winning start at the 2023 World Cup in India.

A 5-0 win over Wales saw Sanford booked in the third quarter but an impressive attacking display saw domination over their Welsh rivals.

Goals from Nick Park, Liam Ansell (2), Phil Roper and Nick Bandurak saw England win in the first game ever at the 21,000-seater Birsa Munda stadium in Rourkela, India.

Sanford also made a substitute appearance against India as they two teams played out a 0-0 draw in front of over 21,000 fans.

England will now play Spain in their final group match on 19 January.
