RAF Honington Win RAF Cup For Second Time

RAF Honington won 1-0 against RAF Coningsby in the cup final.

RAF Honington have won the 2021 RAF Cup final to lift the trophy for the second time in their history.

Robbie Priddle decided a tight game against RAF Coningsby with the winning goal in the 70th minute.

Coningsby, who have won the tournament four times before, were unable to find an equaliser, meaning it finished 1-0 to Honington.

The match was played at the home of Oxford City Football Club and broadcast live on the Forces News Facebook page.

There was an extraordinary moment in the first half when Honington nearly gifted their opponents a goal.

Matty Holden tried to play a simple backpass to his goalkeeper but overhit by some way.

Fortunately for him, Lewis Brightwell saved his blushes with a superb diving header off the line.

While both sides had plenty of shots from distance, it was Coningsby who worked the first clear opportunity of the game.

However, Oliver Walker dragged his shot wide after Jack Debnam's clever pass.

The Coningsby pressure continued as Johnny Wiles forced a good save from Brightwell from the edge of the box.

In the second half, Honington grabbed the winner with twenty minutes to go.

A fantastic through ball from Sam Cantley released team captain Mick Campbell on the left wing.

He did well to drive into the penalty area before crossing low for Priddle who made no mistake.

Coningsby pushed for an equaliser but good defending meant Honington hung on to win the cup.
