British Army beat Royal Navy in first match of U23 Inter Services

The British Army are one win away from being Inter Services U23s football champions after victory over the Royal Navy in Aldershot.

Goals from Lewis Simmons and Aaron Moore defeated the sailors with two assists from Ryan Fagan stealing the show.

The Navy know they must win against the RAF in Portsmouth to stay in contention while the Army will win the title if they beat the Air Force at Rayners Lane in the third game of the competition.

The Army could have taken the lead after 30 minutes but Callum Vincent's shot thumped back off the post.

A minute later, though, Fagan skipped away and laid it on a plate for Simmons who scored to make it 1-0.

One major concern for the Army management will be the injury to skipper Alfie Moulding.

An ugly challenge from Frazer Dempsey saw the Army centre-back depart from the fray and is now a doubt for the meeting with the Air Force.

Fagan and the Army still had time to complete the win.

The winger's good work allowed Moore to bundle home, giving the home team bragging rights against their Navy rivals.
