Army Cricketers Stumble In Inter Services Warm-Up

A defeat against a talented Hampshire team for the Army ahead of the Inter Services.

The Army men's cricket team lost in an final Inter Services warm-up against a Hampshire Academy team.

Despite a good performance against strong opposition, it was a 37-run defeat for the military men in the T20 match at Aldershot's Army Cricket Ground.

It was the professional players who were in to bat first with Army skipper Uri Hill claiming the opening wicket with only one run on the board.

Connor Hodgson was next to grab a wicket as he dismissed Harry Broderick at 17-2.

Hill's second wicket of the match came from Charlie Mumford's wayward shot falling into the grateful hands of Ollie Cross as the Hampshire batting order struggled.

Nick Schofield came into the Army attack and immediately piled more misery on the visitors.

The Royal Artillery soldier took two wickets as Hampshire limped to 37-5.

Hampshire would provide an impressive fightback, though, as South African Gareth Schreuder and Tom Cheater settled the innings.

When Cheater was eventually dismissed, Hampshire were at a more respectable 104-6.

Shreuder grabbed a half-century before the end of their innings with the Army limiting them to 128-6.

It was a target that the Army fancied they could beat but they got off to a terrible start.

Max Simpson tore the opening partnership apart as both Tade Carmichael and Varun Bali were out with six runs scored between them.

Graham Wiseman was next to fall and a brilliant piece of fielding meant Liam Fletcher was also dismissed as the Army's disastrous batting start had them at 6-4.

Denson Narayan put in a good performance as he got to 52 runs, but his team-mates continued to fall around him with not many runs being produced.

The Army's 20 overs ended with a score of 89-7.

Since this match, the Army have beaten a Gloucester Academy squad.

They defend their Inter Services title against the RAF and Navy at Arundel Castle on 10 September.
