Commonwealth Games: Army judo star defeated by Team England athlete in Coventry

Lance Corporal Victor Ahiavor suffered a loss at the hands of Harry Lovell-Hewitt.

Lance Corporal Victor Ahiavor is out of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after a loss to Team England's Harry Lovell-Hewitt.

The Army judo star was representing Ghana at the Birmingham games.

After his defeat, he told Forces News that he was expecting a difficult challenge when the draw was made.

He said: "I had a plan with him during the warm-up but when I got on top of him, I knew there was no point in me doing it with him there.

"So I stood up and started again. His coach was really brilliant. He found out what to do and they capitalised on it."

Despite the loss, he expressed his pleasure at competing at the Commonwealth Games.

"I always say be happy and enjoy whatever you do," said the Fusilier.
