The Army Karate team have won a total of seven medals at the English Karate Academy in what was their first competition of 2023.

In their first event since the WUKF European Championships last November, four members of the Army Karate team took part in the event in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

The English Karate Academy served as a chance to compete with the best karate competitor across the country early in the season.

Corporal Billy Brogan won gold in the masters Kumite and team coach Warrant Officer 2 Brian Hall came away with the silver medal in the masters Kata category.

Captain Alexandra Merisoiu came away with two medals, silver in the masters Kata and bronze in the Kumite, and Warrant Officer 2 Hayley Hall won silver in the Senior Kumite.

In the two Kumite team events, WO2 Hall and Capt Merisoiu won the gold medal in both seniors and masters team Kumite categories.

The Army Karate Team will compete next in the GB Open in February as well as numerous national and regional competitions over the next few months as they aim to compete at their biggest competition of the year, the WUKF World Championships in Dundee in July.
