In football 1 Royal Gurkha Rifles (1 RGR) have won this season’s Nepal Cup. The unit who have just returned from Brunei scored three extra time goals before seeing off fellow finalists Gurkha Company Catterick 4-1 in Aldershot.
The Nepal Cup final is the biggest day in the Gurkha Brigade’s sporting calendar with fans flocking to Aldershot from across the country and further afield to watch.
The cup was won in front of a passionate Nepali crowd. Lt Tom Gardener said:
"It means so much to boys, they're so good at football and so passionate about it. This is going to mean a lot back in the Battalion."
The impressive pre-match entertainment was perhaps more in tune with battlefield training than football and it thrilled the thousands of onlookers.
