EVENT: Social Media Spouses LIVE – Harrogate

Let's get social!
Are you a military spouse or partner? Do you fancy a career in social media or simply learning something new?
If this sounds like you, we have just the ticket.
We are hosting Social Media Spouses Live - a day of networking, workshops, entertainment, stalls, and food at the Great Yorkshire Showground on 19 October from 10am-3pm.
The FREE event will be led by BFBS's Head of Social Media, Jackie Lerm.

We sat down with Jackie to discuss the event and why military spouses or partners should get themselves along to it.
Q: What can ticket holders expect from Social Media Live, Jackie?
Learn new skills like how to edit cool videos on your smartphone and better understand what good social media looks like. They can enjoy chats with fantastic speakers AND some entertainment by a superstar magician. Oh, and free food. Lots of free food!
Q: How much of our everyday lives involve social media? Are there lots of career opportunities out there for those with the right social media skills?
Every single business has a social media presence. And behind that online presence is a social media manager churning out the content. Not only are social media marketing skills transferrable to other career opportunities, but it's also usually a remote working role. This means it can be done from anywhere, something crucially important if your career has to fit around that of a serving partner in the Armed Forces.
Lockdown has shown us the importance of working remotely and how essential digital skills are. I'm regularly approached by companies asking for details of some of our graduates to work for them. Not just employed opportunities, but so many social media freelancers who are really successful.
Q: How did you get into Social Media?
I used to be part of the military community, moving from one location to the next. And that meant I had to take whichever job opportunities popped up. It was difficult having a career, but jobs were plentiful.
After working in comms for a military charity, I moved to BFBS as a social media coordinator, doing precisely what we're talking about right now while working remotely. This has meant I can work for a brilliant organisation, have a genuine career, work around childcare issues, all while building #SMSpouses.
Q: If a military spouse or partner is a little hesitant about taking the plunge, or even about just coming along and having a fantastic day out, what one thing would you say to them?
It's not every year that we're coming to Harrogate, and it may be the last time we do. So bring the kids, let them run wild (we don't mind at all!) and join us for a day filled with informative chats from social media experts, members of your own community, and free entertainment. We'll make sure the little ones get a goodie bag, too!
