Veterans and serving members of the armed forces have gathered at St Paul's Cathedral in London and events were held across the country to mark the 25th anniversary of the first Gulf War.
On 24th February 1991, British and American troops crossed the Saudi Arabian border and entered Kuwait. The ground phase of the Gulf War had begun.
One hundred hours later it was all over and Kuwait had been liberated from Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi Army.
53,000 British personnel were deployed on Operation Granby, the UK's codename for the conflict. 47 British personnel made the ultimate sacrifice.
