His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh has been visiting the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth this afternoon.
Prince Philip made the trip to celebrate 20 years of the school being based in Portsmouth.
The Duke of Edinburgh is Captain-General of the Royal Marines – and arrived to celebrate two things – first the 352nd birthday of the Corps of Royal Marines.
And secondly, the 20th anniversary of the school of music's move from Deal to Portsmouth.
Prince Philip posed for a photograph with the current students and staff of the school.
The Duke is very familiar with Royal Marines musicians – for years the Royal Yacht Britain had its own band which sailed with the Royal Family – and for his recent birthday, the Royal Marines Band Service beat retreat.
A visit to remember for the Royal Marines and just the latest example of the close relationship between the Corps and the Duke of Edinburgh.
