How Britain moves its infantry around in the future has been on display at an armoured vehicle event in London.
It brings into sharp relief how the UK Military is moving away from Afghanistan-style operations and re-equipping ahead of the new Strike Brigades.
The event at Twickenham saw plenty of top brass looking at the potential British military kit of the future.
Much of the kit shared the common theme of being 8-wheeled armoured vehicles.
It signals a move away from highly protected but quite slow vehicles like the Mastiff. It was right for Afghanistan. It saved lives there – but it seems won't be appropriate going forward.
These 8-wheelers are agile across terrain and fast.
They're not much behind tracked vehicles.
In the battlespace of the future, they would work alongside Warriors and Challengers – getting infantry where they're needed fast and hopefully safely.
We don't know which of several candidates will be chosen but what's certain is that for soldiers present and future – 8-wheeled is the way forward.
