Wellington bomber pilot statue unveiled at former RAF Newton site

Watch: RAF Newton unveils statue of Wellington bomber pilot and his spaniel.

A statue of a Wellington bomber pilot has been unveiled at the former RAF Newton site in Nottinghamshire.

The installation was the culmination of a 12-year community project, with aviation artist Tim O’Brien drawing the original concept design before it was recreated by award-winning sculptor Tom Nicholls.

More than 400 guests attended the event, including veterans from all over the UK, and there was a parade by 100 RAF Air Cadets and members of the East Midlands Universities Air Squadron – led by a marching band.
