The world famous Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is going to be a truly interactive experience this year after plans for the usual yearly event had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an exciting first for RIAT, the Air Tattoo will go virtual with a free to view live-streamed event this Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July, giving fans of the world's largest military airshow a flavour of what they know and love with a weekend of simulated flying displays, interviews, virtual Red Arrows and never seen before footage.
Starting from 11am each day, there will be a minimum of four hours of live, unique, video content online showcasing military aviation in a way fans will know only the Royal International Air Tattoo can do. It has been the specialist in this field for nearly 50 years after all.
Who Are The Virtual Red Arrows?
The Virtual Red Arrows are a dedicated team of aviation enthusiasts who have a passion for flight simulators and aerobatics.
The team was founded in 2005 and performed the first nine ship formation display live at the Virtual Festival of Aerobatic Teams in December 2009.
Their shows are tailored as closely as possible to the RAF Red Arrows show routines in respect to their dedication and unrivalled skills.
They will be performing at the Virtual Air Tattoo this weekend.
BFBS Radio's Jess Bracey spoke to Red 12 Daz Scales about the team:

Skilled gamers from across Europe, including RAF eSports, will wow fans with 'virtual' displays from Europe's topflight simulator pilots. After the broadcast there will be a special tri-service Formula 1 tournament on their Twitch channel.
Wing Commander Dan Penter is currently Officer Commanding 42 Expeditionary Support Wing and has been instrumental in the planning of the Virtual Air Tattoo as Chairman of the RAF Videogaming and eSports Association.
Speaking to BFBS Radio’s Ben Coley, Wg Cdr Penter explained about RAF eSports and what else viewers can expect:
Fans will also be treated to a 'behind the scenes' view of military aviation with content from the Royal Air Force, International Air Arms and our Aerospace Industry Partners.
The Virtual Air Tattoo online interaction experience doesn’t end there. Aircraft enthusiasts are encouraged to ask questions via social media.
