HMS Medway helps with humanitarian efforts in Caribbean after Hurricane Ian hits

HMS Medway has helped the people of the Cayman Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands following Hurricane Ian.

The Royal Navy vessel was already deployed in the Caribbean but headed to the islands to help after the Category 4 storm hit the British Overseas Territory.

The storm hit the US and turned streets into rivers and blew down trees as it slammed into southwest Florida on Wednesday – with 150mph winds, pushing a wall of storm surge.

Ian's strength at landfall was category four which meant it tied as the fifth-strongest hurricane – with Charley in 2004 – when measured by wind speed, to strike the US.
