Aviators from 847 Naval Air Squadron are preparing to deploy to Norway.

They tweeted to say: "WINTER IS COMING…again.

"Preparations are in full flow for another successful @847NAS deployment to @UKinNorway."

This Fleet Air Arm squadron is assigned to support Royal Marines, ferrying those in 3 Commando Brigade by air to wherever they are required.

The squadron uses the Wildcat Attack Helicopter in a combined reconnaissance, air support and anti-tank role.

Its other roles might also include winching, casualty evacuation, combat recovery and disaster relief.

According to the MOD, the squadron's personnel are trained for extreme environments and can operate in everything from deserts to jungles to icy tundra.

Constantly held in a high state of readiness, the squadron can deploy anywhere internationally in five days.
