Musical maestros in the Central & East Yorkshire Wing have been awarded Forces Radio BFBS 'Cadets of the Week. The group provide musical opportunities and training to air cadets and staff in the region. Covering 29 squadrons, 700 teenagers in total, they run three bands: The Wing Concert Band, The Wing Marching Band and a string quartet.
Pilot Officer Adam Waudby is Wing Music Officer.
“They’re a fantastic bunch. It’s brilliant to see them develop and to get to do some amazing things.”
Forces Radio BFBS presenter Tim Humphries spoke to Pilot Officer Adam Waudby, Wing Music Officer on his programme 'Access All Areas.'
In 2018 they have a packed calendar of events, including celebrating Air Cadet Sunday, which marks 77 years of the RAF Air Cadets. They’re national drill and ceremonial camp later this year. Plus the young people are ready to stand alongside their parent company in a number of RAF100 performances. Pilot Officer Adam says events like this bring huge benefits.
“It takes a lot of confidence to stand up on your own and play instruments. It really does work on their team work, their self-pride, confidence. The team ethic you get off that is ecstatic.”
