An RAF Air Cadet has had the honour of meeting some of The British Royal Family as thanks for his work with the volunteer-military youth organisation.
Cadet Warrant Officer Jordan Bertolaso was invited to be a guest at Buckingham Palace for HRH Prince of Wales’ 70th Birthday Patronage Celebration.
He joined Tim Humphries on Forces Radio BFBS as he was named Forces Radio BFBS's Cadet of the Week.
The RAF Air Cadet was representing networking organisation, ‘Youth Are United’, as an ambassador of their for their work with uniformed youth groups.
On the day the organisation was working in collaboration with the Yeomen of the Guard to perform Royal duties.
The contingent of 140 cadets and youth volunteers were fortunate to meet and talk to members of the Royal Family.
Attending the event at Buckingham Palace was a proud moment for Jordan:
“It was a real privilege to be there and it’s something I won’t be forgetting any time soon.”
At the Royal celebrations, the Air Cadet also witnessed the now infamous moment when HRH Prince Harry was seemingly upstaged by a bee buzzing around his ear as he was delivering his speech.
At 1406 (Spalding) Sqn, CWO Bertolaso has recently been running a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) course leading cadets from his and two other local squadrons attain The British Science Association's Crest Award.
“At the start of the course we had people who weren’t very confident in speaking but by the end they [each cadet] had managed to stand up in front of the rest of the Corps.”
When Jordan’s not leading other cadets he’s involved aviation activities, in Dundee, at RAF Cranwell and he’s previously been involved running his squadron’s flight simulator.
Forces Radio BFBS continues to shine the spotlight on the work of cadets with the ‘Cadet of the Week’ award on the programme ‘Access All Areas,’ Sundays from 10 am UKT.
Teenagers in the groups worldwide do some amazing work but we’re looking for the cadet who’s gone above and beyond. A sporting prowess, overcoming adversity, academic achievement, or going that extra mile in the community.
You can nominate the next Cadets of the Week now by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
They could feature on Forces Radio BFBS show ‘Access All Areas’ with Tim Humphries, Sunday from 10 am UKT.
