170 battery holds the highest collective military honour that can be given by the US, for its role in one of the fiercest battles in the Korean War. 
 
The Battle of the Imjin River (22-25 April 1951) was the bloodiest engagement fought by the British Army since the Second World War.
 
It is also one of the most decisive defensive battles the Army has ever undertaken.
 
For three days the 29th British Independent Infantry Brigade Group, supported by the 170th Independent Mortar Battery, Royal Artillery, which were attached to the brigade, thwarted the Chinese Spring Offensive.
