Many in Britain know about victory at the Battle of Waterloo but almost three years earlier, the Duke of Wellington scored another big success against Napoleon’s France.
That was at Salamanca in Spain 203 years ago.
Fighting with Wellington’s troops were the regimental predecessors of the modern 5th Battalion the Rifles (5 RIFLES).
A great victory it might have been, but as Rob Olver reports from 5 RIFLES’ base in Germany, they have been celebrating the anniversary in a most unwarlike way.
