The decision to deny the Duke of Sussex the right to wear a military uniform at events commemorating his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II "cannot erase his decade of military service", his team has said.

Prince Harry has confirmed that he will not wear military uniform at official Royal events to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's death due to his non-working Royal status.

Only working members of the Royal Family will wear uniform at the five ceremonial events scheduled during the period of mourning, Buckingham Palace sources confirmed.

These are the St Giles' Cathedral service in Edinburgh, which took place on Monday, the coffin's procession to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, the vigil at the lying in state, the funeral in Westminster Abbey and the committal service in Windsor.

"His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform"

Prince Harry, who saw action on the frontline during two tours of duty in Afghanistan, will be in civilian dress for official events including the late monarch's state funeral on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes told the Telegraph on Tuesday evening: "Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother.

"His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

Harry is expected to appear at several events in the coming week, including a procession to accompany the late Queen's coffin from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday and her funeral on Monday.

One exception has been made for Prince Andrew to wear uniform on a single occasion, a vigil in Westminster Hall as a "final mark of respect" for his mother.

He is expected to be in the full military dress uniform of a Vice Admiral of the Navy, the only military rank that he still holds.

The late Queen's grandchildren, including Prince Harry, are no longer expected to attend such vigil.
