Duchess of Cambridge's tank photos echo Princess Diana's

Photos showing the Duchess of Cambridge in a tank were released last week to mark Armed Forces Day 2022.
The images were taken in November last year, when she visited the Pirbright Training Academy where she spent time with the 101 Operational Sustainment Brigade at Abingdon Airfield, Oxfordshire.
The pictures echo those taken of Princess Diana in 1988 when she was pictured sitting in the driver's seat of a tank.

Similarly, a young Prince Harry was also pictured wearing a helmet in a tank during a visit to the Light Dragoons' barracks in 1993.

Given the close relationship the Royal Family has with the Armed Forces, these tend to be popular shots, and there have been several chances for such photo opportunities through the decades.
In March 1969, Prince Philip was photographed in a Chieftain tank of the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars.

In June 1985, the Prince of Wales, visited the Dragoon Guards in Tidworth and had the chance to ride a tank.

Five years later, while on a visit to British troops in Saudi Arabia, Prince Charles also rode in a Challenger tank with Brigadier Patrick Cordingley of the 7th Armoured Brigade, Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
