The Station Commander’s Cadet for RAF Waddington has been announced for 2018.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Matthew Pearce, who aspires to be a pilot, is part of 204 Squadron.
Tim Humphries spoke to him on Forces Radio BFBS as he was named Cadet of the Week.
Cadet Flight Sergeant Matthew Pearce was put forward for the prestigious position by his Squadron Commander.
He takes over from the outgoing cadet Iva Magpantay who now plans to apply to join the RAF as a Physical Training Instructor once she has completed her A Levels in the summer.
Matthew says he's honoured to take over the role in the centenary year for the force.
“I go with the Station Commander to various ceremonial events, the Freedom of Lincoln Parade, the Battle of Britain Parades and various Remembrance parades.”
Group Captain Tom Burke, Station Commander RAF Waddington congratulated Matthew saying:
“Matthew’s passion for the Royal Air Force showed at interview and it was clear that he had put an awful lot of preparation into his application. Station personnel will now work with him over the next 12 months to help him develop not only in his chosen career path but his leadership and citizenship qualities too.”
Forces Radio BFBS continues to shine the spotlight on the work of cadets with the ‘Cadet of the Week’ award on the programme ‘Access All Areas,’ Sundays from 10 am UK Time.
Teenagers in the groups worldwide do some amazing work but we’re looking for the cadet who’s gone above and beyond. A sporting prowess, overcoming adversity, academic achievement, or going that extra mile in the community.
