The well known and popular TV, radio and stage performer Debbie McGee talks to Hal Stewart about her time working in Iran as a ballerina, travelling to perform magic with her late husband Paul Daniels and the odd way she discovered he was setting off to the Gulf war.
"I was at home one day and the phone rang and it was a Daily Mail journalist who said to me "Debbie what do you think about your husband going out to the Gulf War?"
"At that moment Paul was walking in the lounge and overheard it and said "actually I've been trying to catch you at the right moment..."
Paul was interviewed for the BFBS TV programme Scene Here in 1992 about his memories of being stationed in Hong Kong while in the British Army.
"In the Army I learned mostly how to manipulate cards because they were the easiest thing to carry around."
Paul Daniels was called up for National Service and served with 1st Battalion The Green Howards.
Debbie trained at the Royal Ballet School but it was an audition to be a dancer in the Paul Daniels Summer Show in Great Yarmouth that changed her career and life forever.
Hal Stewart caught up with Debbie to look back on some of her career highlights and often unknown tales from her incredible past.
