Uniformed RAF Air Cadets in headphones on the microphone in the Forces Radio BFBS studios

This week teenagers from 1084 Sqn (Market Harborough) RAF Air Cadets toured Forces Network headquarters. The 15 young people spent the day learning about how the network informs, entertains, connects and champions the work of the British Armed Forces worldwide.

They spoke to Forces Radio BFBS’ Tim Humphries for the programme ‘Access All Areas.’

Highlights enjoyed by 1084 Sqn (Market Harborough) RAF Air Cadets included stepping behind the scenes of Forces TV’s state-of-the-art green screen studio, taking a tour of the newsroom and being interviewed by Hal Stewart for 'The Big Friday Show.'

The Squadron, an award winning band, swapped their musical instruments for media. Cadet Alex spoke of the variety of activities he and the others took part in.

“We’ve been in the radio studios, we looked at the forces.net website and the station's Facebook and Twitter pages.”

Nationally, the air cadets number more than 40,000 members, aged between 12 and 20 years of age. 1084 Sqn (Market Harborough) have been developing digital media skills at their Leicestershire base. Touring Forces Network gave them an opportunity to build on these abilities for the future. Cadet Charlie recognises the power of digital in developing interpersonal qualities.

“Digital skills really help in socialising with other people.”

Forces Radio BFBS regularly feature the activities of cadets – air, sea and land, for the ‘Cadet of the Week’ award on the programme ‘Access All Areas’ presented by Tim Humphries, Sundays from 10am UKT.
