SAS legend Andy McNab and cadets took to the airwaves for the Forces Radio BFBS Cadet Takeover.
The former soldier turned author shared his thoughts on the benefits of cadet groups, social media, selfies and life hacks.
This live, interactive radio show helped put many other cadet groups on the map, with members, leaders and listeners getting in touch.
The podcast, of the original radio show, hosted by Tim Humphries, marks the culmination of the #CadetTakeover video competition.
Forces Radio BFBS challenged cadets across the UK to film activities, for a chance to win £500 worth of kit for their unit, thanks to The Cadet Kit Shop.
We received some fantastic entries from the RAF Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Army Cadet forces. These were all uploaded to this website and Forces Radio BFBS' Facebook and Twitter pages.
The competition is now closed and the winning cadet unit was 3 Troop Royal Engineers (Airdrie) ACF whose video depicted a typical evening at the unit, all in under 90 seconds.
Being crowned winners was a proud moment for leader, 2nd Lt Cammy Green and the teenagers.
“It feels amazing, thank you very much. I’d just like to say well done to 3 Troop”
At the special trophy presentation, hosted by Mark McKenzie at BFBS Scotland, the teenagers got to pose a question to Andy McNab for the special cadet focused radio show.
Andy came into the radio studios to offer cadets of all ages some of his own unique life hacks and let us in on his opinion on Marmite. Watch that video below:
"As long as you're not wet, cold and hungry everything else you can get on with and take on board and get on and complete whatever you've got to do."
The SAS soldier turned author threw his military might behind the social media project. He gave his endorsement via Twitter and Facebook and offered signed copies of his youth orientated books ‘Silent Weapon’ and ‘Street Soldier’, as prizes for all competition entrants.
Andy also recorded a special message to encourage and inspire all cadets to take part. Listen below:
