In pictures: Families wave off HMS Queen Elizabeth

The 65,000-tonne ship is heading to the US in place of sister ship HMS Prince of Wales after she broke down near the Isle of Wight.

HMS Queen Elizabeth has left Portsmouth Naval Base and is heading to east coast of the US.

Crowds gathered around the city's Round Tower to wave off the 65,000-tonne aircraft carrier which is deploying in place of damaged sister ship HMS Prince of Wales.
