UK Carrier Strike Group to return in 2022

Both of the Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers will deploy as part of the formation next year.

British elements from the Carrier Strike Group mission have been returning home this week – but the formation has already planned its next deployment.

The UK Carrier Strike Group will set sail in 2022, with both of the Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers involved.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, which was among several Navy vessels from Carrier Strike Group 21 (CSG21) to return to the UK yesterday, and HMS Prince of Wales will deploy with NATO allies and international partners next year.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy's flagship, followed fellow CSG21 participants HMS Diamond and HMS Defender by sailing into Portsmouth yesterday, with HMS Richmond arriving in Devonport.

The aircraft carrier and her accompanying vessels sailed 500,000 nautical miles through 10 different time zones during the seven-month deployment.
