Novice musicians aim for date at Queen's Jubilee celebrations

After just 16 weeks of tuition, some of these soldiers will be performing at the events to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

More than 40 soldiers have embarked on a drummers course at the Army School of Ceremonial in Catterick, designed to turn them from novices into confident musicians in the Corps of Drums.

The soldiers have picked up their instruments for the first time, and in 16 weeks some will be expected to play during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, taking part in the Trooping of the Colour.

Across six classes, soldiers are learning to play the drums, the bugle and two types of flutes with the ambition of completing the course and heading out to the parade square to pass off as fully-fledged musicians.
