A British Army soldier has died during a routine training exercise on Salisbury Plain.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed the death of the 26-year-old at approximately 10:45 on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called following a report that a man had been involved in a collision with a Warrior armoured fighting vehicle.

The man, who died at the scene, was identified as a member of 5th Battalion The Rifles.

He had sustained significant head injuries, according to a statement from Wiltshire Police – who have launched an investigation into the collision alongside the Army and Health and Safety Executive.

The soldier's family are being supported by a family liaison officer.

An Army spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we can confirm the death of a soldier in Wiltshire on 21st June 2022.

"Our thoughts are with the soldier's family and friends at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected."

Salisbury Plain, just west of Tidworth, is one of the UK's largest military training areas.
