Search Underway For Missing NATO Helicopter In Mediterranean

The aircraft crashed whilst operating in waters between Greece and Italy.

A search is underway after a Canadian military helicopter went missing in the Ionian Sea.

The Cyclone Sikorsky CH-148 helicopter, based on the HMCS Fredericton, crashed while operating in waters between Greece and Italy on Wednesday, NATO officials said.

The frigate is part of a NATO maritime group currently operating in the region.

Ships and aircraft from Greece, Italy, Turkey and the United States are also assisting with the search.

The Canadian military says it has contacted all primary family members of those who were on board the missing helicopter.
