Defence Secretary stresses British Army development as war in Ukraine continues

The Defence Secretary has supported calls from the head of the British Army, General Sir Patrick Sanders, for a fighting force that could defeat Russia with allies on the battlefield.

Speaking to Forces News, Ben Wallace said that the Army has been "about 10 years" behind the RAF and Royal Navy in investment, highlighting a commitment to almost £40bn over the next decade.

"We must be prepared to defend NATO in a way that we've never had to against a threat, certainly not since the Cold War," he said, adding that "Russia is back" and willing to break "all international norms" since its invasion of Ukraine.
